The Ohio State Buckeyes have done their due diligence on quarterback Champ Monds, out of Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Ryan Day and his staff have already hosted the signal caller for four unofficial visits, with the latest on April 4.
However, he’s become one of the most sought-after players in the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals Industry Rankings list him as a four-star recruit, the No. 22 quarterback and the No. 288 player in the nation.
Originally a member of the 2028 cycle, he reclassified and will hit college a year early. Unfortunately, he was limited to just five games during his sophomore season at Vero Beach High School. As just a freshman, though, he threw for 2,234 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 502 yards and nine touchdowns.
Ohio State has quickly put together an impressive 2027 cycle. They rank second in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation with 10 commitments. Despite already landing four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds, they’re looking to add more at the position.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, though, Monds is trending toward another program. On Wednesday, Rivals’ director of recruiting, Chad Simmons, logged an expert prediction for Monds to commit to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With 866 all-time predictions, he has been correct 86.61% of the time.
The Fighting Irish, unlike the Buckeyes, are still looking for their first quarterback commitment in the 2027 cycle. Landing Monds would give Notre Dame a big boost to a class that ranks eighth nationally.
While nothing is official, the Buckeyes may need to look elsewhere for another quarterback. The only other uncommitted option they’ve extended a scholarship offer to is three-star Caden Jones.
