The Buckeyes enter favored by just over two touchdowns against an unbeaten Iowa team coming off a win over Michigan. So, what could go wrong?
Ohio State Fans Remember the Last Visit to Kinnick Stadium
Back in 2017, the Buckeyes made their way to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes. They were almost three-touchdown favorites that day, and left with a crushing defeat.
Iowa broke open a 10-10 tie after the first with three touchdowns in the second, coasting to a 55-24 victory. The Hawkeyes put that game out of reach with 17 points in the final 15 minutes of action.
Ohio State was ranked No. 3 at the time after besting Penn State the week before. They would rebound, earning wins over Michigan State, Illinois and Michigan tor each the conference title game. That team ended the year with a win over USC in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
Redemptions Should Be on the Minds of Jeremiah Smith, Julian Sayin
This version of Ohio State is battle-tested, having pushed top-ranked Texas to its limits earlier this year. In fact, they were on cruise control before a devastating fourth happened.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith looks the part of a future top NFL Draft pick, as does quarterback Julian Sayin. Smith is over 600 yards receiving and Sayin has thrown 10 touchdowns to just one interception with 1,206 yards.
But this Iowa team is different, as well.
The Hawkeyes have a quarterback, and he’s on fire right now.
Hank Brown has become the player Auburn recruited him to be. Brown directs an offense that has put up points when they need it, highlighted by a game-winning touchdown pass to Reece Vander Zee to stun Michigan.
The Buckeyes should have all the motivation in the world, as a second loss could really damper their College Football Playoff hopes.
