Ohio State, Ryan Day Receive Exciting Update on 2027 Five-Star Target

After a successful Spring season, the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day will now begin to shift their focus towards the 2027 recruiting class this summer.

So far, Day and the Buckeyes have landed a total of 10 commits in the upcoming recruiting cycle, including a pair of five-stars in EDGE DJ Jacobs and wide receiver Jamier Brown. Still, Ohio State remains in the running for some of the best prospects in the 2027 class, and now, the program has its sights set on another five-star prospect this offseason.

According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges is set to announce his commitment on July 22, with the Buckeyes being one of four schools in the mix.

Georges has quickly become one of the hottest high school recruits in the 2027 class, as he is currently the No. 1-rated prospect in the state of Tennessee and the No. 2 prospect in the upcoming recruiting class, per 247Sports’ Composite. And while the talented playmaker has received recognition from many of the top schools in the nation, Day and the Buckeyes were one of the first schools to offer the star running back.

During his junior season at Baylor High School, Georges completely dominated, rushing for 1,605 yards and 25 touchdowns. In addition to his stellar 2025 campaign, the highly-touted running back stands at a stout 6-foot, 205 lbs., while also recently running an unofficial 4.38 40-yard dash. His excellent blend of size and speed will allow him to be a terrific running back at the college level, and he is fully capable of taking over a workload of a true top rusher.

Unfortunately for Ohio State, Day and the Buckeyes will have to compete against multiple SEC schools, including the Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, and the Tennessee Volunteers, his in-state program. However, the Buckeyes are set to host Georges for an official visit on May 29, while also previously taking two unofficial visits to Columbus in 2024 and 2025.
