One area in which the Ohio State Buckeyes have struggled in recent years is bagging top pass rushers on the recruiting trail, but they could fix all of that in the transfer portal this winter.
Brandon Little of A to Z Sports has identified an ideal target for Ohio State, naming Miami University (Ohio) edge rusher Adam Trick as a player Ryan Day and the Buckeyes should already be planning to steal.
Trick has revealed his plans to enter the transfer portal, and once he hits the market, he will be one of the top pass rushers available.
The 6-foot-4, 242-pound star racked up 59 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles and four passes defended in 2025. He has tallied 13 sacks in each of the last two years, and while that production came in the MAC, it's still impressive, nonetheless.
Ohio State has managed to tally 33 sacks as a team this season, senior defensive end Caden Curry leading the way with 11. Arvell Reese and Kenyatta Jackson have each totaled 6.5 sacks.
But there is no question that the Buckeyes' pass rush is not quiet as dominant as it was last year when J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer were prowling around the edge.
Right now, Ohio State's depth chart at edge rusher is more than questionable.
"Ohio State grabbed DE Beau Atkinson out of the portal last spring, and he should return next year. Atkinson has one sack this season after having 7.5 last season at North Carolina," Little wrote. "Atkinson and freshman Zion Grady are the next two up after Curry and Jackson on the depth chart. CJ Hicks made the switch from linebacker to full-time EDGE before the season and decided to redshirt. Hicks will have to decide if his fifth season will be played in Columbus."
Trick is a Dayton, Oh. native, so you can certainly imagine why the Buckeyes would intrigue him, and we already know the kind of damage Ohio State has done in the portal recently.
With the Buckeyes' defensive front in serious doubt heading into 2026, Ohio State should not waste any time in trying to bring Trick aboard.
You have to imagine that the Buckeyes will be one of the favorites to land Trick should they throw their hat into the mix for the upcoming fifth-year defender.
