Ohio State is having what feels like endless high school players stepping foot on their campus for a chance to be evaluated by the Buckeyes. A coaching staff hard at work both on and off the field in their recruiting efforts, the goal is for these few weeks to see major pay days in the form of commitments to their 2027 and 2028 classes.
No shortage of events this week, Ohio State has offered new names and is set up for another week full of top target guests.
Ohio State offers 2028 WR after impressive camp performance
Ohio State gets guys on campus they begin to recruit simply from their on-field performances under the watchful eye of the coaching staff during camp. A prime example of that being the case this week, Ohio State offered 2028 California native receiver Hayden Koo on Tuesday after he dominated in his showings.
A 6-foot-1, 170 pound athlete, Koo is the No. 173 player nationally and 23rd best receiver in the class per the 247Sports Composite. Nearly 20 offers to his name from the likes of Arizona, Cal, North Carolina, Oregon, Stanford and a host of others, adding the Buckeyes to his list is only sure to continue the attention he receives.
That said, getting in on this recruitment before schools such as USC certainly doesn’t hurt if the staff wants a real chance at earning his commitment when decision time comes.
Taking time to be with Ryan Day and Cortez Hankton following his camp showing, the Buckeyes let Koo know pretty clearly how they’ll view him from here on out, and he too gave his thoughts.
“This offer is very special,” Koo said in an interviews with Greg Biggins of Rivals. Clearly Koo likes all that Ohio State has to offer both from a program standpoint and of course at his position.
Mater Dei DB lands Ohio State offer
Ohio State went back to familiar ground on Tuesday when they got in the mix for Mater Dei product Troy Bishop. One of the more well-known prep programs nationally, Mater Dei is constantly churning out elite players for the next level, and the 2028 class will be no different.
The Buckeyes not always the most successful when it comes to landing players out of the prep powerhouse, they do at least have Chris Henry Jr. as their foot in the door even if his roots were in Ohio. This latest scholarship shows the staff is confident they can change their fate and do their best to create a pipeline on the West Coast.
A 6-foot-1, 190 pound safety, Bishop is the No. 435 player nationally and 35th best safety per the 247Sports Composite. Double-digit offers to his name, schools such as Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Oregon jump atop of the list as some of the bigger programs and that now of course includes Ohio State.
USC always a strong presence in Mater Dei and other Southern California native recruitments, the Buckeyes won’t have an easy fight here, but they’ve never backed down before and won’t again if the player is a priority.
Quick Hits
Another performance worthy of Ohio State’s attention, on Wednesday the coaching staff offered Pennsylvania tight end Luke Sohyda following his showing during the 7-on-7 tournament hosted by the Buckeyes. A 6-foot-4, 250 pound athlete in the 2028 class, Sohyda does not yet have a ranking via his 247Sports profile, but does hold 10 offers to his name from the likes of Maryland, NC State, Temple, and a host of MAC programs.
Ohio State getting into the mix is certainly his biggest offer to date, and it likely will increase attention paid his way. Getting in on him early in the mix is a win for Keenan Bailey, who was able to see first-hand what he can do. Sohyda has already made it known he will be back this fall for another visit.
The state of Ohio has produced several Michigan football players over the course of time, and the Buckeyes would love nothing more than to end that for a Michigan legacy who was on campus on Wednesday.
The son of Alfie Burch, Asa Burch is quickly becoming a top priority for Ohio State and they’ll of course need to fight off his dad’s alma mater in the process. Working out yesterday for Ohio State, and specifically with James Laurinaitis, the Buckeyes are doing all it takes right now to make him feel wanted.
Seeing reports that he cried when receiving Ohio State’s offer, odds are they do have a real shot here at his commitment. The No. 129 player nationally and 16th best edge in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite, keep it locked to Asa’s recruitment.
