Jun. 23—Jim Tressel will join Ohio State's Ring of Honor at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Tressel will be honored as the Ohio State Buckeyes open the 2026 season against Ball State at 12:30 p.m. He'll be the first new member of the Ring of Honor since Troy Smith's name was added to the list of honorees on the C-Deck at the stadium.
Tressel is now the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.
"Growing up in Ohio," Tressel said in a press release, "Ohio Stadium was about as special a place as there could be for a Buckeye fan. Then, when you have the privilege of spending so many years on the field as a coach, you never really think about something like this. You just try to honor the tradition, respect the responsibility that comes with it, and do your very best each day. I grew up admiring Paul Brown and Woody Hayes, and they both meant so much to our family. To be recognized alongside these men is truly humbling. Thank you to Ellen and our entire family, our players, our coaches and support staff, TBDBITL, and the entire Buckeye Nation for the support over the years. I'm grateful to have been a small part of such a special tradition, and I will be forever grateful to Andy Geiger and President Brit Kirwan for giving us this extraordinary opportunity."
Tressel won a national championship during an undefeated 2002 season. He was 106-22 in 10 seasons with a 9-1 record against Michigan.
The Ring of Honor includes two other coaches, Paul Brown and Woody Hayes, as well as six Heisman Trophy winners: Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, Howard Hopalong" Cassady, Archie Griffin, Eddie George and Smith. Three-time All-American Chic Harley is also a member.
