Ohio State vs Purdue Prediction, Preview, and Betting Lines

Ohio State is toying with the rest of college football.
It’s doing whatever it wants to, it’s playing hard on offense when it wants to, the defense is taking care of the rest, and no one has been even competitive with this bunch after Texas and Arch had that one last drive in the season-opener.
Now it’s about focus. There’s this, UCLA, and Rutgers to deal with – light scrimmages all – before going to Michigan. But Purdue will bring the fight.
The Boilermakers won’t win a game the rest of the year with at Washington and Indiana to close, but they’re far, far better than the 2-10 record they’ll be tagged with.
They have the coaching and just enough among the starting 22 to make this a fight if the Buckeyes aren’t taking this seriously.

Why Ohio State Will Win
The defense plays like it’s offended when teams score on it, because it is.
Penn State dared to 1) score 14 points in the first half last week, and 2) both were on short runs in the red zone. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia wasn’t pleased, the defense appeared to take the points personally, and the final score was … 38-14.
This bunch is playing at a whole other level. It’s No. 1 in total defense, No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 1 in red zone defense, and it’s able to do what every head coach dreams of- take all the pressure off the offense.
Score, don’t score, no big whoop – the D will clean up the mess. But the offense has been playing relaxed, loose, and ultra-efficient.
Julian Sayin isn’t forcing anything because he doesn’t have to. He’s hitting 80% of his passes, the running game is good enough, there hasn’t been a turnover since September, and …
Why Purdue Will Win
With the Buckeyes down 6-3 in the final moments, it’ll come down to a gutsy fourth down deep ball to Michael Jenkins … (nah … but amazing that it’ll be 23 years almost to the day since the iconic “Holy Buckeye” play.)
How does Purdue take Ohio State out of its comfort zone?
It’s not going to a bowl game, and it’ll probably finish the year 2-10, so here’s where the team lets it rip on both sides. The passing game needs time, but it’s been dangerous from time to time.
There’s enough of a pass rush to get a little bit creative. Sayin is playing pitch-and-catch because he has all the time in the world to let his NFL receivers get open.
Purdue usually ends up buckling after a while, but if there was ever a game to take several chances, this is it.
Ohio State vs Purdue Prediction, Betting Lines
Ohio State’s defense will keep the Boilermakers from doing much of anything.
The Buckeyes are all business. They’re better, they’re playing like it, and there’s nothing that fazes this bunch. This will be a day for the running game.
That’s the one slight glitch. Ohio State hasn’t hit 170 rushing yards against any power conference team – Texas is thrown in there – with most of the ground game production against Grambling and Ohio. That changes this week with well over 40 carries for the first time all year.
