Ohio State wide receiver Bryson Rodgers plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. He spent three seasons with the Buckeyes.
Rodgers made seven appearances this season. He recorded six catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. In total, Rodgers collected 11 receptions for 125 yards while at Ohio State.
Bryson Rodgers played high school football at Wiregrass Ranch (FL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 358 overall player and No. 55 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Rodgers also entered the transfer portal following his freshman season in 2023. Alas, he ultimately opted to return to Ohio State for another two years. Rodgers reflected on that time during a conversation with Lettermen Row last December.
“It’s natural for a young guy,” Rodgers said. “I was 17 years old, and there’s a big stage like this, so I mean, it was definitely natural for me to have that feeling, and it grew as the year went on. But, just being back here and just displaying what I could do and knowing that what I do every day at practice, and my work ethic, and just what I do in and outside the building, just goes to show that people really have trust in me here as a guy who’s kind of waiting in the wings for an opportunity.”
As of this report, it’s unclear if Rodgers will compete in the College Football Playoff for Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a first-round bye and will face the winner of first-round game between Miami and Texas A&M.
Even without Rodgers, Ohio State arguably boasts the best receiving unit in the country. The group is led by All-American Jeremiah Smith. Veteran wideout Carnell Tate is the Buckeyes’ second option and projected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Tate will be hungry to prove himself in the CFP after only tallying 45 receiving yards in Ohio State’s loss against Indiana in the Big Ten Championship. Earlier this week, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day discussed his team’s preparation for the CFP.
“We want to get the guys healthy, want to get them rested physically, mentally, emotionally. There were a lot of guys hurting after that [Indiana loss],” Day said. “They were all pissed, just like all of us.
“But, you’ve got to wake up, move on and figure out how to get those things fixed, but then also be ready physically — but not so much that we lose our edge. So, that’s the balance that we’re looking to strike here in terms of the practice schedule and how we’re putting that together.”
