The 2025 season ended abruptly for Ohio State. After entering December as the No. 1 team in the country and 12-0, with sights set on a deep postseason run, the season was over. The Buckeyes fell in the Big Ten Championship to Indiana and then lost in the quarterfinal Cotton Bowl of the College Football Playoff to Miami (FL). So following a terrific regular season, nothing was to show for it.

The highs and lows of college football — both ends of the spectrum that Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has been on. After winning the national title as a freshman, Smith saw his season end at the hands of the Hurricanes as a sophomore. So at Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, Smith was asked which team he would want to get revenge on more this upcoming season. Indiana or Miami?

“It’s gotta be the hometown team,” Smith said on the Cover 3 Podcast. “Miami. Gotta be. I heard it a lot every time I went back home. Got to be Miami."

Smith, originally from Miami Gardens, Florida, had 15 receptions for 301 yards and a touchdown across those two games. He enters his expected final year of college and will go in with high expectations — as an individual and the team.

Ohio State faces Indiana in Bloomington in a highly-anticipated rematch on Oct. 17. On the other hand, Ohio State would have to face Miami in the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes last lost two straight games in 2023, also the final two games of the season. The result was a national championship the year after.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is hoping to learn from the Indiana and Miami losses, and lean on yet another experienced team in 2026.

"You take a lot of things (from those losses). Every year you look at the things that have gone well, then you look at the things that came up short," Day said on Wednesday. "I think when you're chasing small margins like you are, you have to identify the things that need to get fixed and fix them."
