For the first time in more than a decade, Ohio State will be represented in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
Anthony Thompson, a five-star forward playing for Hudson (Ohio) Western Reserve Academy, will be the first Buckeyes signee to play in the annual showcase game since D’Angelo Russell participated in the 2014 game.
“Being named a McDonald’s All-American is an incredible honor and I’m so grateful for the recognition,” Thompson said. “I appreciate the selection committee as well as the coaches and people who have helped me along the way.”
The 6-foot-8, 205-pound Thompson is listed as the No. 7 overall player in the 2026 class according to 247Sports.com. He signed with Ohio State in November as the highest-rated player to commit to the program since Jared Sullinger in 2010.
“You’ve got a young man in Anthony Thompson who really is doing something that hasn’t been done in this program for a significant amount of time,” Ohio State coach Jake Diebler said. “A five-star, top-10 player to come into our program, it’s great for the future of Ohio State basketball.”
Ohio State signed transfers Aaron Bradshaw and Sean Stewart for the 2024-25 season, but both McDonald’s All-American Game honorees had played elsewhere as freshmen. Thompson is the 19th Ohio State signee to play in the game.
He picked Ohio State ahead of finalists Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas.
