Ohio State’s Biggest Concern Going Into Saturday Is This

Ohio State might have the most talented offense in college football.

Julian Sayin is back. Jeremiah Smith might be the best player in America. The Buckeyes are loaded with weapons and just scored 56 points in their Week 1 destruction of Ball State. Sayin threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns while completing 21-of-25 passes.

But I still have one major concern.

What happens to this offense when Sayin faces an elite defense?

Look at Ohio State’s biggest games last season.

The Buckeyes scored 14 against Texas, 27 against Michigan, 10 against Indiana and 14 against Miami.

Sayin was especially quiet against Texas, throwing for only 126 yards and one touchdown. Ohio State still won 14-7, but the Buckeyes weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard.

Then came the postseason.

Ohio State scored just 10 points in its Big Ten Championship loss to Indiana and 14 in its playoff loss to Miami. Sayin threw three interceptions combined in those two losses.

That’s why Saturday is so interesting.

We know Sayin can absolutely destroy average defenses. We saw plenty of that last season, and we saw it again against Ball State.

Now he has to go into Austin and do it against Texas.

The Longhorns forced three turnovers in Week 1 and have the athletes in the secondary to actually challenge Ohio State’s ridiculous collection of receivers.

If Sayin plays like he did against Ball State, Ohio State’s offense could become terrifying.

But if we get another 14-point performance like last year’s Texas game?

The Buckeyes could be leaving Austin with their first loss of the season.
