It was another dominant week for Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith. Smith torched Maryland to the tune of four receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Now, Smith and the Buckeyes have their biggest test of the season as they visit Indiana this upcoming week.
As Curt Cignetti prepares his team to face Smith, he is giving the ultimate praise to the receiver, per Nicole Auerbach of NBC Sports.
“There is no one like him right now playing at this level. We’ve got two really good ones. He’s a freak. We’re going to have to do a great job on him,” Cignetti said.

It has been difficult to stop Smith this year. He is second in the nation in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, hauling in 48 receptions for 916 yards and 11 scores. He also has four games over 150 yards and two games over 200 yards. Meanwhile, he has scored two or more touchdowns in four of the six games this year. The most difficult matchups for Smith this year, in terms of opponent defense, have been Texas and Iowa. He brought in eight receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown against Texas. Then, against Iowa, Smith hauled in 11 receptions for 206 yards and two more scores.
Smith has faced Cignetti and Indiana twice. The first game came in 2024, when Smith was a freshman. He had just three receptions for 34 yards in that game. In 2025, the two schools met in the Big Ten Championship. Smith brought in eight catches for 144 yards. Still, he has never scored against Indiana. Indiana is the only school Smith has faced more than once in his career and does not have a touchdown to show for it.
The top ten matchup between Ohio State and Indiana is set for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday.
