With just one week left in the 2025 college football regular season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are quickly finding their star players in the running for multiple prestigious awards.
On Tuesday afternoon, Buckeyes’ star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was named as a finalist for the 2025 Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the best wide receiver at the college level.

As a former five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, Smith made his presence felt in Columbus as soon as he set foot on campus. In his first year with the Buckeyes, the elite playmaker recorded 1,315 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns while playing alongside first-round pick Emeka Egbuka.
His dominant efforts last season played a huge factor in the team’s National Championship run, and many expected him to get better as a sophomore.
Despite missing one game this year against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Smith has managed to tally 902 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 69 receptions. In addition to his consistent play in 2025, the rising star has four games of 115+ receiving yards and one touchdown in 10 games.
However, with Smith missing a game this season, his competition for the award includes two highly-regarded receivers in UConn’s Skyler Bell and USC’s Makai Lemon.
Bell currently leads all FBS players in receiving yards this season with 1,276, while also racking up 13 touchdowns in 12 games played. Lemon, on the other hand, has put up similar numbers to the Huskies’ pass catcher, racking up 1,124 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 78 catches.
In order for Smith to beat out both Bell and Lemon for the Biletnikoff, the young wideout must finish the regular season with a huge performance against the Michigan Wolverines.
When asked about his availability for The Game on safety Caleb Downs’ podcast “Downs 2 Business”, Smith reassured fans that he “should be good to go Saturday.”

If Smith were to win the award, he would become the second Ohio State receiver to win the Biletnikoff this decade, along with former Buckeyes standout receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who won the award back in 2023.
