Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day wants to make The Game better and believes one slight change would make it happen. In the new C.R.E.A.M. era, which stands for cash rules everything around me, a non-traditional approach could be the difference.
In an interview with The Athletic's Scott Dochterman, Day said now is the time for Ohio State and Michigan to switch up. With that said, a 24-team College Football Playoff is on the horizon and will weigh heavily on the Big Ten Conference.
“I think with the elimination of the championship game, it keeps that rivalry as fierce as it’s ever been, the stakes just as high,” Day said.
The Game with Michigan would essentially serve as a play-in game for the Playoff. While most would agree that's the set-up as it stands now, having the winner advance would mean more for the rivalry.
“You’re playing for either a chance to get into the Playoff or a chance to get seeded high to get a first-round bye,” Day said. “Or, if you are already predicted to be one of the top eight schools, then you’re fighting for a high seed. So, all those are critically important to your success in the Playoff.”

Ohio State and Michigan have made the Playoff a combined eight times. If both teams are 11-0 before the matchup, they would likely both be in a 24-team playoff. However, if The Game served as a Playoff eliminator, the stage couldn't get bigger.
