Oklahoma commit headlines top 15 cornerbacks entering football season

Cornerbacks arguably have the hardest job on the field, as they're going against the best playmakers on the opposite side while also trying to do it cleanly.
The difference between an elite corner and a good corner could be the difference in a defense becoming the unit a team needs to win a state championship.
Every class has its share of elite corners that go on to star at the college level, and a select few go to play long careers in the NFL. Looking ahead to the new season, there are quite a few high school corners who have the potential to make either of those jumps beyond high school.
Here's a look at the top 15 cornerbacks in the country heading into the 2026 high school football season.
1. Gabriel Osborne Jr.
High School: Mustang (OK)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Oklahoma
Breakdown: Teams don't throw Osborne's way a lot, and for good reason. A shutdown corner in all aspects of the game, he's coming off of a junior year that saw him record 65 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a pair of interceptions.
2. A'mir Sears
High School: Columbus (Miami, FL)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Miami
Breakdown: Arguably the best pure athlete in the 2027 class, Sears recently reclassified from the 2028 cycle and committed to Miami days later. He'll play his senior season at a new school as well after recording 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions to go along with 49 receptions, 942 yards, and 11 touchdowns on offense at West Broward last season.
3. Donte Wright
High School: Long Beach Poly (CA)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Miami
Breakdown: Miami has the luxury of landing two of the best corners in the country in its 2027 class and, more impressively, went to opposite ends of the country to get both. Last season, Wright had 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a pair of sacks.
4. Danny Lang
High School: Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: USC
Breakdown: Lang could get to USC immediately and compete for a starting spot. As a junior, he totaled 31 tackles but also had an impressive 10 pass breakups.
5. Hayden Stepp
High School: Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Oregon
Breakdown: Playing on one of the best teams in the country, Stepp was arguably the Gaels' best player in 2025. The future Duck finished his junior season with 24 tackles and four pass breakups.
6. Nasir Richardson
High School: Malcolm X Shabazz (Newark, NJ)
Class: 2028
College Commitment: Uncommitted
Breakdown: The true definition of a lockdown corner, Richardson is now considered the best cornerback prospect in the 2028 class after Sears reclassified. Last year he finished the season with 35 tackles, four interceptions and a pair of tackles for loss.
7. Joshua Dobson
High School: Hough (Cornelius, NC)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: South Carolina
Breakdown: Dobson will play for North Carolina's top program his senior season before returning to his home state to play his college ball at South Carolina. He didn't record many tackles last year, but that's simply because teams did not throw his way.
8. Keaton Fields
High School: Hamilton (Chandler, AZ)
Class: 2028
College Commitment: Uncommitted
Breakdown: Fields could be in store for a massive junior season after breaking onto the scene as a sophomore. Last year he totaled 43 tackles, six tackles for loss, five pass breakups and four interceptions.
9. Raylaun Henry
High School: St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Texas A&M
Breakdown: Henry may not put up the absurd stats other guys have, but his impact on the game can't be denied, as he's the defensive leader for one of the best teams in the country.
10. Jermaine Cobbins
High School: Springfield (TN)
Class: 2028
College Commitment: Uncommitted
Breakdown: A two-year starter for the Yellow Jackets, Cobbins was rarely thrown at during his sophomore season, recording 41 tackles and an interception he returned for a touchdown. He was also the team's leading receiver, catching 41 passes for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns.
11. Juju Johnson
High School: Long Beach Poly (CA)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: UCLA
Breakdown: An injury kept Johnson off the field during his junior season. However, he showed why he's one of the best in the 2027 class during a sophomore year that saw him finish with 43 tackles, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks for loss and an interception.
12. Tae Walden Jr.
High School: Collierville (TN)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: Oregon
Breakdown: Walden could go to Oregon and find a role on either side of the ball for the Ducks. He led the Dragons in receiving last season with 912 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 28 tackles, 17 pass breakups and five interceptions on defense.
13. Daniel Yebit
High School: Yukon (OK)
Class: 2027
College Commitment: TCU
Breakdown: Whether it's on offense or on defense, Yebit finds a way to make an impact. Offensively, he caught 43 passes for 760 yards and six touchdowns, but was even better on defense, recording 37 tackles, four interceptions, and three tackles for loss.
14. Tyler Boyd
High School: Carrollton (GA)
Class: 2028
College Commitment: Uncommitted
Breakdown: Boyd is one of the highly sought-after corners in the 2028 class, playing for a Carrollton squad expected to keep pace for a state title. He lives up to the hype after recording 38 tackles, seven pass breakups, and three interceptions; two he returned for touchdowns as a sophomore.
15. Isaiah Taylor
High School: Keller Central (TX)
Class: 2028
College Commitment: Uncommitted
Breakdown: Taylor has a unique perspective, having played both corner and quarterback through the first two seasons of his high school career. He saw a significant rise in his national ranking after competing in the Texas 7-on-7 Championships over the summer.
