Oklahoma fans hilariously troll John Mateer after struggles against Michigan

To say that Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer struggled against Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 12, would be a huge understatement.

Mateer didn’t see the field well and looked uncomfortable, finishing with only 189 yards through the air, one touchdown and one interception during the Wolverines’ 17-10 vicgtory. He led the Sooners with 45 rushing yards.

After the game, he was pretty hard on himself.

“I missed a lot of throws I normally don’t miss,” Mateer told reporters, per Oklahoma reporter George Stoia III.

Oklahoma fans are still not happy with him, and some have taken to Facebook Marketplace to make fun of him. Fans listed Mateer on Marketplace for $1,234 with the description of, “Selling my used John Mateer. Thought this thing was gonna be a high-performance model, but I’m starting to think I bought somebody else’s project car.”

Some of the checkmarks include: plenty of horsepower, looks good sitting in the driveway, dual-threat package and big aftermarket arms installed.

Some of the known issues include: the check engine light comes on under pressure, sometimes throws to the wrong address, has trouble starting in cold road environments, and recently took it to Michigan & barely made it home.

It’s a hilarious post, even though Oklahoma lost the game. Oklahoma is No. 24 in the new AP poll heading into its next game against New Mexico on Saturday.

Mateer will have to play much better moving forward to win back fans’ trust.
