One day ahead of Oklahoma’s College Football Playoff game against Alabama, the Sooners received good news for the future.
Covered Wagons Recruiting, which tracks high-school players on the OU radar, tabbed five different prospects to land with Oklahoma as part of the Class of 2027.
Cornerback Juju Johnson, edge rusher Taven Epps, defensive lineman Deven Robertson, cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. and linebacker Case Alexander were all listed by the recruiting service as projected to sign with the Sooners. Johnson, Epps, Osborne and Alexander are all four-star recruits.
Johnson and Epps, both from California, are the highest rated of the bunch.
Epps, a 6-foot-4, 235-pounder from suburban Orange County, California, is the No. 10 player in the Golden State, according to 247Sports, the fifth-ranked linebacker in the country and ranked No. 79 nationally. Johnson, who plays in Long Beach, less than a half-hour from Epps, is also a four-star recruit, ranked No. 9 in California and No. 67 in the nation.
Osborne (Mustang) and Alexander (Washington) are both Oklahoma preps players. Osborne is a consensus four-star recruit and the No. 3 player in the state in his class. Alexander rates higher with other services than he does with 247, where he’s No. 9 in the state of Oklahoma. With the 247Sports Composite – which uses a number of recruiting service rankings – he’s the No. 5 player and a four-star.
Robertson is the outlier as a Mississippian. A 6-foot-1, 329-pound defensive lineman, he projects as defensive tackle. Hailing from Hattiesburg, Miss., Robertson ranks as the No. 14 player in the state and the 415th-ranked player in the country, per 247Sports.
None of the players have officially committed. The Sooners currently carry the top-ranked Class of 2027 in the nation, per 247Sports, with 11 commits, including six four-star players.
