A healthy John Mateer could be one of the biggest X-factors of the college season, but the Oklahoma football offense will depend on far more than just the quarterback. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Parker Livingstone is a potential difference-maker in his own right. Is he ready to play, though? Despite recently missing some time with a concussion, the Texas transfer is cleared to play in the Sooners’ season opener against UTEP on Friday, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Oklahoma should not need a loaded arsenal to defeat the Miners in Norman, but it is important for Livingstone to acclimate himself to a new offense. Building chemistry with Mateer and perfecting timing are not tasks he wants to iron out on the road versus Michigan next weekend, or when SEC play begins at the end of the month.
This is an opportunity for the former four-star recruit to get comfortable in his new environment and make a nice first impression in front of the Sooner fans.

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables should have the defense in working order, but the offense must attain a consistent form if this squad is going to survive one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Livingstone is expected to be an important component. Standing 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, this young talent could help John Mateer ascend as a passer in 2026. He helped Arch Manning find his way through a challenging 2025 season.
Parker Livingstone totaled 29 receptions for 516 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games last year. He is positioned to take another step forward, this time with Oklahoma football. The Lucas, Texas native is clearly not afraid of pressure after crossing the Red River. He is ready for battle, and Norman is eager to see him in action.
The wait is nearly over. The Sooners and UTEP are scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET opening kickoff time.
