Oklahoma high school football coaching news: Millwood hires Michael Billingsley

Millwood has hired Michael Billingsley as its football coach, the school announced Friday. 

Billingsley spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Southeast, his alma mater, and had a 10-9 record. 

He will fill the spot vacated by Darwin Franklin, who left Millwood for Edmond Santa Fe after leading the Falcons since 2013 and winning Class 2A state titles in 2016 and 2017. 

"I am honored and humbled to join the Millwood family," Billingsley said in a release. "Millwood has a proud football tradition, and I am excited for the opportunity to work with these student-athletes, coaches, and community members. Together, we will strive to uphold the Falcon standard and continue building a program that our school and community can be proud of."

Billingsley was a defensive lineman at Southeast before continuing his career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Nicholls State. 

After leading Southeast in Class 5A, he’ll take over a Millwood program that is moving down from Class 2A-I to 2A-II. 

The Falcons went 4-5 last season after making state championship game appearances from 2022 to 2024. 

"Coach Billingsley embodies the values and traditions that have made Millwood Football one of the premier programs in Oklahoma," Millwood athletic director Shannon Hayes said in a release. "His passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete development, and vision for building strong relationships with our players, families, and community make him an outstanding choice to lead our program into the future."
