The Oklahoma Sooners still have the No. 1 2027 recruiting class, but it likely won’t stay there for long.

The Oklahoma Sooners are currently the team to beat in recruiting in the 2027 cycle. Of course, depending on which system you use, you could have a different answer. But no one is getting the elite talent, and the amount of elite talent that the Sooners are. They currently have 21 commits.

The Texas A&M Aggies have been killing it in recruiting, especially in the 2027 class. They’re currently ranked No. 1 in Rivals’ rankings and No. 2 in 247 Sports’ rankings. However, Oklahoma is No. 1 on 247 and No. 2 on Rivals. This week, the Aggies landed the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2027 class in Mark Matthews. He’s also the No. 3 player in the class.

Doing so means that the Sooners are likely going to lose their No. 1 spot atop the rankings. The Sooners currently have a total rating of 280.76 with seven more commits this early into the cycle, while A&M has a 275.70. So, when the Aggies continue to land players and get near the same amount as the Sooners, it’s pretty obvious that they will be the undisputed No. 1. Then again, there are still a few more recruits who could commit to the Sooners.

Guys like four-star linebacker Ben Kolar, four-star safety Bode Sparrow, and four-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne could all end up committing to the Sooners within the next few months. Then again, none of those are guaranteed.

Aggies got the best offensive lineman in the 2027 class

Mathews can end up being one of the best players the Aggies have had in some time. He’s got the perfect length at the position, amazing footwork, and his strength is bar-none at his age. There’s not much, if anything, he can’t do at his age.

Matthews is elite, and really, he has the tools and traits to start year one if the Aggies needed it from him. Luckily, they probably won’t need that from him, barring any injuries. Either way, TAMU is doing things their way, the way they have seen success in the SEC-through the trenches. The Sooners are very similar in that way.
