Oklahoma Sooners kicker Tate Sandell has been one of the most valuable players in the nation this season. He's been automatic regardless of the distance he's being asked to kick from. On Tuesday, Sandell was named a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the best kicker in college football.

Sandell has undoubtedly been the best kicker in college football. There's just one kicker in college football with at least 20 field goal attempts with a better field goal percentage than Sandell's 95.7 conversion rate. Sandell has made 22 kicks in a row and is 7 of 7 from beyond 50 yards.

Sandell has earned three SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season and has been instrumental in Oklahoma's 9-2 season. He made three 50-yard field goals to help propel the Sooners to a win over Tennessee and came through in the second half against Alabama with a go-ahead field goal.

In pivotal road wins over Tennessee and Alabama, Sandell was 7 of 7 on field goal attempts to keep the Sooners College Football Playoff hopes alive.

With one more game remaining in the regular season, Sandell has positioned himself to earn kicking's highest honor.
