With spring football practices just around the corner, early looks at the 2026 college season have already begun.
Over at CBS Sports, writer Carter Bahns examined the most intriguing rematches from the 2025 season that are on the slate for the fall. Of the 12 games he selected for such designation, eight feature SEC teams. One of these includes Oklahoma.
The Sooners rematch versus Michigan on Sept. 12 will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after the Sooners took the teams’ first meeting of a home-and-home in 2025, 24-13. The game put OU quarterback John Mateer at the top of the Heisman Trophy candidate list after he threw for three touchdowns and compiled 344 yards. Oklahoma’s defense gave up just 288 yards in one of its most impressive games of the year, as well.
OU went on to the College Football Playoff, making the field for the first time since it expanded from four teams. Michigan finished 9-4, but its season ended in scandal with the dismissal of coach Sherrone Moore. The Wolverines are expected to be better still in 2026.
“All told, it was one of the Sooners‘ most impressive outings of the year and a trip to forget for the Wolverines,” Bahns wrote. “As the home-and-home series moves north to Ann Arbor, Michigan projects to be more competitive in round two with a more mature roster.”
The Sooners open their season Sept. 5 at home against Texas-El Paso.
Other games involving SEC teams on the schedule include Georgia at Alabama, LSU at Ole Miss and Texas at Texas A&M.
