The Oklahoma Sooners are really going after a 2027 athlete from Hutto, Texas.

The Oklahoma Sooners are pushing very hard for a 2027 athlete who can play on both sides of the ball. However, he's not being recruited to play on both sides.

Jaiden Fields, one of the best two-way players in the country, must choose which side of the ball he'd prefer to stay on and then choose the school that matches his preference. Oklahoma likes him on defense, and other schools like him on offense.

"Stanford, TCU, SMU, and Oklahoma [want me at] safety and special teams," Fields told Parker Thune of SoonerScoop.com. "A&M is kind of both [sides]. I don't have any preference, offense, or defense. I love them both. Wherever I can get on the field."

Jaiden Fields can be a good safety in Brent Venables' defensive scheme

The Hutto, Texas native is being recruited as a safety by Brent Venables, who already has one safety in the class in Jaylen Scott. Not to mention, he is projected to land Bode Sparrow. But, the safety position is a huge need on this current Sooners' team. They have two in the 2026 recruiting class with Markel Ford and Niko Jandreau, but may struggle with depth at the cheetah and strong safety position behind Michael Boganowski.

Adding more safeties in this class could help them prepare for the 2027 season. And, Fields feels pretty comfortable at safety.

"Being able to play the post, and my range sideline to sideline, and being able to go get the ball," Fields said. "It's been good. I got offered last summer and then [they] kinda went silent. But now they're back, and now they're pushing hard. It's kind of cool to see them come back, you feel me? I loved Oklahoma right when I stepped foot on campus. The stadium, the staff, the players – everything over there is great."

Fields is currently a three-star, but if he committed to one position and worked on that hard, he could work his way up the rankings-not that it matters to Oklahoma. He's the No. 14 athlete in the country, and the No. 80 overall player in the state of Texas. Oklahoma really, really likes him.
