The Oklahoma Sooners opened the season with a 51-0 win over the UTEP Miners to move to 1-0 on the season. Oklahoma stayed inside the top 10 but dropped one spot in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
The Sooners dropped one spot because the LSU Tigers moved up five spots from No. 13 to No. 8 after their 51-10 win over Clemson.
In total, six teams received first-place votes. The Ohio State Buckeyes remain the No. 1 team in the nation, receiving 50 first-place votes. The biggest drop in the top 10 was that of the Oregon Ducks, who fell from No. 2 in the preseason coaches poll to No. 6. That allowed the Georgia Bulldogs to move up to No. 2, followed by Texas, who moved up to No. 3. That sets up a top three showdown between the Longhorns and the Buckeyes this Saturday in Austin.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish moved up to No. 4, and defending national champion Indiana is back in the top five.
Still ahead of the Sooners are Oregon at No. 6, Miami at No. 7, LSU at No. 8, and Texas A&M at No. 9.
In total, five SEC teams make up the top 10 along with seven of the top 12. The SEC has a total of 10 teams in the top 25, and Oklahoma will play a total of seven teams ranked in this week's Coaches Poll.
