The transfer portal officially opens on Friday, January 2, and the Oklahoma Sooners have already seen a number of players express their intentions to leave the program. On Wednesday, there was a flurry of players announcing plans to enter the portal. According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, offensive tackle Jake Taylor is also planning to enter the transfer portal.
Taylor was a part of head coach Brent Venables’ first recruiting class at Oklahoma. Originally committed to the Lincoln Riley coaching staff, Taylor reaffirmed his commitment after the coaching transition. Unfortunately, the former four-star prospect was never able to live up to his blue-chip billing due to a litany of injuries that kept him off the field.
His most notable role came in the 2024 season when he made four starts at right tackle for the Sooners. He didn’t play at all for the Sooners in 2025 and was limited to 257 snaps in four seasons in Norman.
With Michael Fasusi emerging at left tackle and Ryan Fodje expected to start for the Sooners at right tackle in 2026, Oklahoma has it’s offensive tackles locked in for the foreseeable future. Taylor is the sixth offensive lineman planning to enter the portal, joining Jacob Sexton, Isaiah Autry, Logan Howland, Troy Everett, and Luke Baklenko in the portal.
