The Oklahoma Sooners are widely considered one of the better teams in the nation heading into 2026. Coming off of a College Football Playoff appearance and a 10-win season, the Sooners retooled the roster with several key additions in the transfer portal to add to an offense looking to make a big jump.
As Brad Crawford of CBS Sports wrote, that’s the one thing to like about the Oklahoma Sooners. The additions of Parker Livingstone, Trell Harris, Hayden Hansen, Rocky Beers, Lloyd Avant, and E’Marion Harris added to an offense that finished 78th in the nation in 2025.
There’s a lot to like about Oklahoma’s veteran defense under Brent Venables, but the offseason priority was adding playmakers. Mission accomplished. Former Virginia standout Trell Harris and Parker Livingstone from Texas are expected to start alongside big-play threat Sategna, giving John Mateer reliable targets. – Crawford, CBS Sports
In Livingstone and Harris, the Sooners added nearly 1,400 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns to the offense. Their ability on the outside will take a lot of pressure off Sategna, who was an All-SEC second-team selection. An improved passing game will help a running game improve, in addition to the expected development of the running game this offseason.
The Sooners are better on offense than they were a year ago. In addition to a more mature offensive line and hopefully a healthier John Mateer, Oklahoma’s offense will make a significant jump in yards and points per game.
And OU will need it to, especially right out of the gate, as the Sooners have three tough games away from Norman in the first six weeks of the season. And that’s the thing that Crawford doesn’t like about Oklahoma in 2026. The Sooners travel to face Michigan and Georgia on the road and then play Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Yes, OU will face UTEP and New Mexico at home but their playoff hopes will be determined away from the friendly confines of Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
