Oklahoma State football hires Sean Brophy as QB coach, offensive coordinator

STILLWATER — Sean Brophy has followed Eric Morris before, and he’ll do it again.
Brophy will be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Morris at Oklahoma State, the program announced Thursday.
Brophy was entering his junior season as a quarterback at Incarnate Word when Morris became the head coach there in 2018.
After his playing career, Brophy made the move into coaching in 2021, taking a quality control position for Morris at UIW. The two made the move to Washington State together in 2022, with Morris as offensive coordinator and Brophy as a graduate assistant.
And when Morris was hired at North Texas in 2023, Brophy came along as his quarterbacks coach.
In his three seasons coaching quarterbacks at North Texas — serving as passing game coordinator this year — the team has ranked 12th, fourth and second nationally in passing yards per game.
Brophy has been instrumental in the development of former walk-on Drew Mestemaker, who leads the nation in passing at 317.5 yards per game this season. Mestemaker reportedly intends to enter the transfer portal in January, though it is not a guarantee that he’ll come to OSU.
Brophy is the first member of the offensive staff to be formally announced, though reports Wednesday night said the Cowboys will hire Wake Forest assistant Nick Edwards as receivers coach.
