STILLWATER — Once again, Chris Barnes is following receivers coach Nick Edwards to a new destination — and that’s good news for Oklahoma State football.
Former Wake Forest receiver Barnes, a top-100 recruit in the 247Sports transfer portal rankings, committed on Saturday night to the Cowboys, who hired Edwards as an assistant coach last month. Barnes made his commitment official on Saturday night, according to On3.com.
The 5-foot-7, 168-pound Barnes is a small but electric slot receiver who had 547 yards and three touchdowns on 39 catches over 11 games as a redshirt freshman playing for Edwards in 2025.
The duo was together at Washington State in 2024, where Barnes played in three games while redshirting.
With Barnes’ addition, the OSU transfer portal class — at least for the moment — jumped to the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports class rankings.
Barnes is originally from Houston, where he helped North Shore High School to 30 wins and two state title appearances in his final two seasons, while compiling a total of more than 2,600 all-purpose yards.
He joins a strong group of receivers coming in via the transfer portal that includes North Texas’ Wyatt Young and Illinois’ Justin Bowick, among others.
