STILLWATER — Eric Morris is officially a full-time Cowboy.
The newly hired Oklahoma State coach will not participate in bowl season with North Texas, the university announced Tuesday afternoon.
“After several thoughtful conversations with Coach Eric Morris over the past week, we mutually agreed that with his impending transition to Oklahoma State, the best path forward for both programs is for Eric to turn his full attention to his new role in Stillwater,” UNT athletic director Jared Mosley said in a statement.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Eric, his wife Maggie, and their family for three extraordinary years at UNT. Under Coach Morris’ leadership, Mean Green Football delivered back-to-back bowl seasons, an American Conference championship game appearance, and an 11-win regular season, the first in our program's history.”
Mosley added that associate head coach Drew Svaboda will oversee preparations for the New Mexico Bowl as interim head coach. Outside of Morris, the rest of the coaches will remain in place through the Dec. 27 bowl game, according to a report from the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Morris arrived in Stillwater on Sunday and has been working to lay the foundation of his program, including meeting with a handful of OSU coaches who are discussing potential jobs on Morris’ staff.
Morris also posted a message to North Texas on social media, thanking the program for his time there.
“I’m so proud of what we built together in back-to-back bowl appearance seasons, a conference championship game and an 11-win regular season that will stand in the record books forever,” Morris wrote in a social media post.
“As I begin the next chapter at Oklahoma State, please know I’ll be cheering loud and proud for this program and these players on December 27 in the New Mexico Bowl. Go get that 12th win, you’ve earned it.”
