Oklahoma junior tight end Kaden Helms will enter the transfer portal, his agent told On3Sports.
Helms served largely as the team’s No. 2 tight end during the 2025 season. He caught a career-high five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Helms had just three receptions entering the year.
At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Helms has the build to be an impactful player, but he never quite cracked regularly playing time with the Sooners. He signed with Oklahoma as a four-star recruit and the No. 3 player in the state of Nebraska in the Class of 2022.
Entering the season, Helms figured to be in line to see his first significant action after Oklahoma lost leading receiver Bauer Sharp at tight end at the end of the 2024 season. But linebacker Jaren Kanak changed positions in the offseason and quickly established himself as a comfortable target for new quarterback John Mateer, catching 44 passes for 533 yards. Both marks were good for third on the team.
Kanak, however, exhausted his eligibility. Combined with Helms’ portal entry, the only Oklahoma tight end remaining on the roster with real playing time at the position is Carson Kent. Coach Brent Venables currently has two tight ends committed in the Class of 2026 and former Carl Albert High School athlete Trynae Washington (Class of 2025) who redshirted to put on weight to play the position.
Helms is the second player to enter the portal for the Sooners since their season ended Friday in a loss to Alabama. Linebacker Kobie McKenzie reportedly entered the portal on Sunday.
