At the time, it seemed ridiculous that the meeting between these two in the Rose Bowl at the end of the 2017 season was the first time they had played. This might not be a College Football Playoff semifinal, but just the second meeting will be a huge deal in the SEC and national title chases.
Oklahoma’s (2-1) season isn’t cooked with a loss, but after the 17-10 defeat to Michigan, and with several monster showdowns ahead, finishing the regular season 10-2 if it drops the date to the Dawgs will be a monster undertaking.
Georgia ripped through Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, and Arkansas with ease to start the season, and now we finally get to see whether or not this team is any good.
Oklahoma vs Georgia: Quick Hits
- About that 2018 Rose Bowl, it wasn’t the best College Football Playoff game – the first two Alabama-Clemson national championships were a whole other level of intense – but the 54-48 Georgia win in overtime was special.
- Oklahoma gets a week off after this to prepare for the Red River Rivalry against Texas. There isn’t a true breather of a game the rest of the way – South Carolina is the easiest date.
- Georgia hosts Vanderbilt next week before a showdown at Alabama. It still has a trip to Ole Miss to deal with, too.

Why Georgia Will Win
Yeah, the Oklahoma offense. It’s not good.
To be extremely fair, Michigan’s defense is among the best any SEC team has faced so far this season, and as we said last week, don’t get into a twist about OU not looking great against a really, really good New Mexico team. However, the running game needs to be better.
Georgia doesn’t have the defense you want to go against if you’re trying to get your running game right – the Bulldogs are allowing 1.5 yards per carry.
Oklahoma vs Georgia Prediction, Betting Lines
The Sooners can’t make mistakes with five turnovers in the last two games, but that’s not the real problem.
Again, no, Georgia hasn’t beaten anyone great, but Western Kentucky could still end up winning the Conference USA title, and Arkansas actually is an SEC team. The Bulldogs aren’t just No. 1 in the nation in scoring, but it’s by a relative mile – 59.3 points per game, Florida averaging 54, and Miami 51.7.
Georgia will score, and Oklahoma will struggle to keep up. The Sooner defense will keep it close, though, until late.
