The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, GA. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Georgia is favored by -14 points on the spread with a moneyline of -550. The total is set at 44.5 points.

Oklahoma enters its Week 4 matchup in Athens as a two-touchdown road underdog and will surely need to play perfectly on both sides of the football if they’re to pull off a massive upset on Saturday.

Following a successful 2025 campaign that led to Oklahoma finishing with a 10-2 overall record and a College Football Playoff appearance, head coach Brent Venables has high expectations in his fifth season at the helm.

Venables was hired in 2022 after serving as defensive coordinator at Clemson under Dabo Swinney, and his prowess as a defensive schematic specialist played a vital role in him getting the gig in Norman.

It should come as no surprise that it’s the Sooners’ defense that’s the far superior part of the team, despite QB John Mateer returning for his senior season.

While the Sooners blew the doors off UTEP in their opener, they’ve struggled mightily on offense, scoring just 24 points in the team’s last two contests. They narrowly escaped a home game versus New Mexico, 14-6.

Though Mateer has largely struggled, the Sooners’ offensive line has actually been playing very well thanks to the huge addition of former Arkansas RT E’Marion Harris.

Oklahoma’s defense is anchored by star defensive tackle David Stone, who’s widely projected to be a top-10 NFL draft selection in 2027. The rest of the Sooners’ defense has been remarkable as well, with LB Kip Lewis, DE Taylor Wein and LB Owen Heinecke all playing major roles.

Venables’ defense has allowed opposing offenses to score just 16 points over its first three games, and it will definitely require another stout performance like that if the Sooners are to win this weekend.

Georgia is off to a remarkable start to its 2026 campaign, defeating its first three opponents in dominant fashion while collectively posting a 63-point winning margin on average.

While the Bulldogs have yet to be seriously tested, the Sooners will present their toughest challenge to date, despite being a two-touchdown favorite.

Gunner Stockton returned to Athens for his final year of collegiate eligibility following a phenomenal 2025 campaign in which he threw for nearly 2,900 yards, in addition to 24 passing touchdowns.

The Bulldogs’ senior is off to another great start in 2026, racking up 583 yards and nine touchdowns while not committing a single turnover. Stockton also has the best QBR in all of college football at 94.8.

Georgia’s leading rusher Nate Frazier also returned for the Bulldogs following an extremely impressive freshman year and has already rushed for over 200 yards, along with five touchdowns.

RB Chauncey Bowens has also played a vital role in Kirby Smart’s backfield, scoring three touchdowns.

The third-year Bulldog is remarkably versatile and an elite pass-catching back, securing six catches, which ranks third on the team in receiving behind WRs Craig Dandridge and Sacovie White-Helton.

Georgia boasts another elite defensive unit in 2026, which should come as no surprise for a program that consistently ranks amongst the top programs in the country on this side of the football.

The Bulldogs have an impressive secondary that features Rasean Dinkins, KJ Bolden, and Ellis Robinson IV, amongst several other remarkably talented defensive backs.

Kirby’s defense has an elite front seven as well, with edge rusher Quintavius Johnson leading an extremely dominant pass rush. Georgia boasts a top-notch linebacker corps as well, featuring the likes of Raylen Wilson, Chris Cole, and AJ Kruah.

Despite how impressive the Sooners’ defense has looked over the first three games of the season, I’m very concerned about how Mateer will fare against an absolutely loaded Bulldogs defense.

While Venables’ bunch held their own versus Michigan (ultimately losing by a TD), the Bulldogs are on a whole other level and boast superior units to Oklahoma on both sides of the football.

In a game I expect the Sooners to be completely outmatched, I favor backing Georgia both to cover its -3.5 first-quarter spread, in addition to covering its full-game -13.5 number.
