The Oklahoma Sooners face the biggest challenge of their SEC tenure yet as they travel to take on the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Athens. The Bulldogs have been one of the most consistent teams in college football over the last decade under head coach Kirby Smart.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been a roller coaster ride under Brent Venables.

The Sooners came into the season with big plans for 2026. Expectations were high for a team that brought back a lot of talent from last year's College Football Playoff team. However, the Sooners' offensive performance over the last two weeks has been a rude awakening from Oklahoma's postseason dreams.

All it takes is one play to give confidence to a player or a unit that's been struggling. The Sooners simply need a spark. Can they find one this week against the Georgia Bulldogs? We'll find out Saturday afternoon.

Oklahoma Rises to the Occassion, Falls Short

The Oklahoma Sooners have typically played well on the road, which is what made their effort against Michigan disappointing. After a pair of lackluster offensive efforts, the Sooners find a spark and get a little help from their defense in the turnover department, but it won't be enough against the No. 2 Bulldogs.

Sooners Still Can't Find Answers

Oklahoma has not looked like a cohesive team since Week 1. They’ve struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball, and right now even Brent Venables says they lack identity. They’re also facing many injuries, including the two best players on either side of the line of scrimmage and in the linebacker group. It just seems like too much to overcome, especially on the road against the No. 2 team in the country. Georgia knows exactly who they are and have looked the part on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs are off to a historic start on offense, and the defense has been one of the best in the country as well. OU will unfortunately lose their second game of the season, despite how good the defense has been.

Offense Continues to Struggle

The Sooners are taking on an extremely good opponent on Saturday, one that has looked dominant on both sides of the ball through three games. With the way OU’s offense is playing, it’s hard to envision much of a path to victory, especially on the road, and especially without key players like Michael Fasusi, Michael Boganowski, Cole Sullivan, and Trell Harris, at minimum. Georgia is just too big, too fast, and too good. However, if there is a path to the upset, it’ll come through the Oklahoma defense delivering a masterful performance.

Sooners Shut Out?

This one is not going to be fun for Sooner fans. The Oklahoma Sooners offensive line has struggled this season. They aren’t executing the basics, they're getting pushed around, and that is making it impossible for the offense to succeed.
