The Oklahoma Sooners have struggled on offense this season. One of the biggest concerns has been the offensive line.

The Sooners have started multiple units this season because of injuries and performance. But the offensive line has played a big role in Oklahoma being one of the worst offenses and rushing offenses in college football. The Sooners also rank No. 94 in sacks allowed with nine this season.

Head coach Brent Venables was asked about the offensive line during his bye week press conference. He said he's seen some improvement from that unit.

"There's certainly improvement, particularly in pass pro, and we've got to be a more aggressive, confident, you know, attacking, quit seeing too much kind of group," Venables said via OU Insider. "They're going to mess up up front. The closer you are to the ball, the more difficult things are. Everything happens really fast. There was incremental improvement there. Still have to eliminate some of the negative plays."

Venables' comments suggest the offensive line is trending in the right direction, even if plenty remains to be cleaned up. Improvement in pass protection could be especially important for an offense that has struggled to sustain drives and avoid negative plays.

The bye week gives the group time to build on that progress before facing the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and, hopefully, to get back star left tackle Michael Fasusi, who is battling an injury. If Oklahoma can turn those incremental improvements into more consistent blocking, the offensive line could become a key piece in getting the Sooners' offense back on track for the second half of the season.
