Ole Miss took quite a few losses in the transfer portal when coach Lane Kiffin left for LSU last season. Now, it may be trying to get some compensation.

According to On3, the Rebels are considering taking legal action against a pair of former players, edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen and offensive lineman Devin Harper. Per On3's Pete Nakos, a lawsuit could be filed "within the next two weeks."

Athletics director Keith Carter said as much last week, telling the Clarion Ledger on July 10 that the legal option was one the school is exploring.

“That would be an option, going and asking a court to get that money for you,” Carter said. “Contracts are with the players. LSU could pay that on behalf of the players. So we’re kind of exploring all of that right now.”

OMSpirit's Ben Garrett reported earlier this month that Ole Miss is yet to receive buyout payments from LSU for the two players. While Carter wouldn't provide specifics on how much is owed, Garrett reported that the total is roughly $1 million.

Why could Ole Miss sue the players who transferred to LSU?

The Rebels suffered several losses in the transfer portal, with many of them following Kiffin to LSU. The reason Carter and Ole Miss are specifically seeking buyouts for Umanmielen and Harper is the fact that both initially opted to remain in Oxford, signing revenue-sharing agreements before ultimately leaving for Baton Rouge in January.

Ole Miss is the latest program to potentially seek compensation from players who broke their contracts with the school.
