OXFORD — Ole Miss football has added a starting defensive back from Georgia in the transfer portal.

Joenel Aguero has committed to coach Pete Golding and the Rebels. He announced the news in an Instagram post on Jan. 10.

Aguero is a 5-foot-11 safety from Lynn, Massachusetts. He played three seasons for the Bulldogs and has one year of eligibility remaining. He was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Aguero started 12 games for the Bulldogs in 2025 and recorded 39 tackles and one interception. He had six total tackles against Ole Miss when the teams played in the regular season on Oct. 18. A hand injury kept him out of the final two games of the season, including a rematch against the Rebels in the Sugar Bowl.

There’s a good chance Aguero is a starter for Ole Miss in 2026, especially with safety Kapena Gushiken’s eligibility expiring at the end of the season.

Golding has added three defensive backs in his incoming transfer portal class. Aguero joins cornerback Sharif Denson (Florida) and safety Edwin Joseph (Florida State) as incoming transfer into the secondary.

Ole Miss is up to 10 incoming players in its 2026 transfer portal class.
