Ole Miss football‘s latest transfer portal addition comes from an in-state rival.

Former Mississippi State safety Tony Mitchell committed to Ole Miss on Jan. 20, he announced in a post on X.

Mitchell is an incoming senior from Alabaster, Alabama. He is 6-feet-1 and weighs 215 pounds.

As a junior in 2025, Mitchell played in 11 games, making three starts. He recorded 25 tackles and four tackles for loss. He was rated as a three-star transfer by 247Sports.

This was his only season with the Bulldogs. He played at Alabama in 2023 and East Mississippi Community College in 2024, where he was ranked the No. 6 junior college player in the country according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings.

This is the second year in a row that a player has transferred between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Last season, wide receiver Ayden Williams transferred to Mississippi State from Ole Miss.

Mitchell is the third safety transfer to commit to Ole Miss. The others are Edwin Joseph from Florida State and Joenel Aguero from Georgia.
