A new layer has been added to the tampering allegations levied against Ole Miss football and coach Pete Golding.

Veteran West Coast reporter John Canzano reported Jan. 29 that Fresno State had been in contact with the NCAA about a potential Ole Miss tampering violation.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney accused Ole Miss of tampering Jan. 23. Linebacker Luke Ferrelli transferred from California to Clemson and enrolled at the school before flipping his commitment to Ole Miss.

Swinney said Golding texted Ferrelli during a class saying, “I know you’re signed. What’s the buyout?” with a picture of a $1 million contract.

Canzano reported that an Ole Miss staffer “made improper contact” with Fresno State wide receiver Josiah Freeman, who led the Bulldogs in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2025.

Freeman reportedly provided screenshots of the communication to NCAA officials. Fresno State coach Matt Entz declined to comment on the matter on Jan. 28, according to Canzano.

The punishment for tampering in the NCAA varies based on the severity of the incident. Penalties for a Level I or Level II violation include include fines, suspensions, show-cause orders, postseason bans, scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions and probation.

A Clemson football spokesperson told The Greenville News Jan. 27 that Clemson “remains in communication” with the NCAA.
