Trinidad Chambliss enters his final college football season with an opportunity to win the Heisman Trophy and lead Ole Miss back to the College Football Playoff.

The Rebels quarterback has added muscle to his lower body this offseason, and the early results sound promising. An Ole Miss staff member told On3 that Chambliss now has “a little bit more zip on the ball” and looks more explosive when beginning a run. The quote appeared in Pete Nakos’ report from Rebels camp, presumably from Pete Golding.

Chambliss emerged as one of college football’s biggest stars last season, leading the Rebels to the CFP semifinals and finishing inside the top 10 of Heisman voting. He threw for more than 3,900 yards while adding over 500 yards on the ground.

Greater lower-body strength could make Chambliss even more dangerous. Additional velocity should help him attack tighter passing windows, while improved explosiveness could make an already productive runner harder for SEC defenses to contain.

Ole Miss also has star running back Kewan Lacy alongside him in the backfield. If both remain healthy, the Rebels should possess one of the nation’s most dangerous offensive duos and a legitimate chance to contend for the SEC title.

Chambliss will face substantial competition in the Heisman race, with players such as Arch Manning and Dante Moore expected to receive considerable attention. Lacy could also build his own case with a strong season.

This represents Chambliss’ final opportunity to capture the award and win a national championship. After coming one victory short last season, his offseason transformation could help him finish the job.
