Ole Miss not convinced Sam Leavitt injury tag is 'sincere,' per report

On Wednesday night, a surprising news story hit the wire: LSU Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt was listed as "doubtful" for Saturday's marquee top-10 showdown against the Ole Miss Rebels, throwing his status for the highly anticipated matchup into question.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Rebels aren't buying it.

Of course, this is LSU coach Lane Kiffin's former team, and a staff that used to work with him. Would he inaccurately list his star player on the injury report to gain some competitive advantage? Pete Golding and his staff would know better than us.

"No one on the Ole Miss staff is convinced LSU QB Sam Leavitt’s appearance as “doubtful” on the injury report is sincere, and he’ll miss the game on Saturday, per sources," Thamel tweeted on Thursday morning.

Leavitt showed no signs of injury last weekend in a 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech, so it was surprising to see his name pop up on the injury report on Wednesday night. Fortunately, in this new age of relative transparency in college football, another injury report will be released on Thursday and Friday night, as well as before the game on Saturday.

There's a chance that Leavitt will continue to be listed as doubtful, but until we see someone else take the field as starting quarterback on Saturday afternoon, it seems as if nobody is buying the notion that he won't play in this game.
