Ole Miss football quarterback Austin Simmons is entering the transfer portal, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The news comes on Jan. 2, the day after the Rebels advanced to the Fiesta Bowl and the CFP semifinals after beating Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
Simmons is entering with a no contact tag, and Missouri is the favorite to land him, Thamel reported. Simmons is expected to stay with the Rebels’ for the remainder of their CFP run.
The sophomore quarterback appeared in 17 games in two seasons with Ole Miss. He began this year as Ole Miss’ starting quarterback, but after suffering an injury in the Rebels’ Week 2 win over Kentucky, Division II Ferris State transfer Trinidad Chambliss assumed the starting role.
On the season, Simmons threw for 744 yards and four touchdowns while completing 60% of his passes in eight games. He also rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on 22 attempts.
