Good news arrived for Missouri football fans on Friday afternoon as ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that former top prospect Austin Simmons — who spent his freshman season in the quarterback room at Ole Miss — is entering the portal. Per reports, he will be entering with a no-contact tag with Missouri as a favorite.
This would be big news for the Tigers as they’re losing quarterback Beau Pribula to the portal this offseason. Simmons appeared in six games this season with the Rebels, racking up 744 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions. Ole Miss found a lot of success this season going 11-1 during the regular season and most recently punching a ticket to the CFP semifinals.
Simmons was one of the top 300 high school recruits in the Class of 2023 and will look to get a fresh start with two years of eligibility remaining.
Missouri is also looking into options like Kennesaw State’s Amari Odom and Florida’s DJ Lagway, but this report seems promising.
More to come as the news hits but the Tigers may have found their new starting quarterback on the first day of the portal opening.
