STARKVILLE — Ole Miss football quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has taken the SEC by storm.

Now he’s filed a waiver with the NCAA to do it again in 2026.

“We’re still waiting to hear word on that,” Chambliss said Nov. 28. “Hopefully we get some communication back. Maybe next week.”

Chambliss led Ole Miss to a 38-19 win over Mississippi State on Nov. 28. It was Chambliss’ first Egg Bowl game. He passed for 359 yards and four touchdowns vs the Bulldogs on 23-for-34 passing.

The victory sets Ole Miss (11-1, 7-1 SEC) to make the College Football Playoff. MSU (5-7, 1-7) will likely miss a bowl game.

Chambliss is a Division II transfer from Ferris State. He is a senior in his last year of eligibility, but if his waiver request is cleared, he could return to college for a final season in 2026.

Division II rules for redshirts were not the same as in Division I when Chambliss was a freshman. That was 2022 for Chambliss, when he played in just two games. The waiver depends on making a successful case he should get a retroactive redshirt for that season.

“That would be great for me to get another year,” Chambliss said. “Another year in the offense, having the spring and just developing more on this level. That would definitely be huge.”

Trinidad Chambliss has no love for Mississippi State after stolen jersey

Chambliss’ first Egg Bowl was a good introduction to the chaotic rivalry. Him taking a sack started a dust-up during the game that resulted in multiple flags being thrown.

At 3 a.m. before the game, Kiffin said Chambliss’ jersey was taken from the visitor’s locker room.

“I thought it was kind of funny, but very disrespectful honestly,” Chambliss said. “It kind of shows you what kind of school Mississippi State is. They have always had brawls and fights. We can’t get too caught up in that. Didn’t really like that.”
