Ole Miss Rebels extend ridiculous streaks without Lane Kiffin drama weighing them down in College Football Playoff

The Ole Miss Rebels completely annihilated Tulane 41-10 in their first round College Football Playoff game on Saturday. There were significant questions about what this Ole Miss team would look like following the departure of the villainous Lane Kiffin, but the Rebels looked better than ever. It was as if the Lane Kiffin drama was weighing the team down before, because they made everything look way too easy.

Ole Miss offense thrives without Lane Kiffin drama holding them back

Despite all the doubts about the Ole Miss Rebels potentially taking a step back without Lane Kiffin, it turns out it was the exact opposite. The Ole Miss Rebels dominated from the first play of the game against Tulane, and the game was over just as soon as it began.

The first drive kicked off with three plays for 75 yards as running back Kewan Lacy ran in a long touchdown score. It was immediately clear that the Rebels had Tulane outmatched.

The first Tulane drive? Interception by Ole Miss. The very next Ole Miss drive? 4 plays for 60 yards and a touchdown. The Rebels were up 14-0 and it quickly became abundantly clear that Pete Golding had his team ready to dominate.

Ole Miss played with their food a bit for a few drives after the opening destruction, but once the Rebels extended the lead to 24-3 they took their foot off the gas. The pace of play slowed. It was just time to wrap things up with everyone as healthy as possible. Both quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy had already gotten dinged up, so the Ole Miss staff obviously just wanted to manage any further damage. Still, the Rebels finished with 500 yards of total offense, over 10 yards per pass attempt, and an easy 151 rushing yards.

So much for Lane Kiffin meaning anything at all to this Rebels team. They had no problem putting up another 40+ points on offense even without their best offensive players staying healthy throughout the contest.

Rebels extend wild streaks in College Football Playoff win over Tulane

The Rebels extended their wild home winning streak to 9-0 on the season, an all-time program record. Their only loss of the year coming to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, in Athens

Ole Miss also extended their crazy streak of 30+ points scored (the most in the nation) to seven games in a row. No one else except for Texas Tech even has the possibility of matching that streak down the stretch in the playoff (and they have to go to the championship to do so).

This Rebels team has its work cut out for itself if they want to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in the quarterfinal match here soon. However, if they come out firing as strong as they did against Tulane, then actually decide to play defense this time around, unlike the game in Athens, Pete Golding might have this Rebels team set to make a run to the national championship.
