A deadline for Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin to reveal his decision on his future with the football program has been set.
On Friday, Ole Miss vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics Keith Carter announced that he and Kiffin were part of a meeting with the Ole Miss chancellor in regards to Kiffin's future. At the conclusion of that statement, Carter announced that the final decision on Kiffin's future at Ole Miss would be made public the Saturday after the Egg Bowl game against arch-rival Mississippi State. That means December 6.
"Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce. While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important – our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion. Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game. This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it's imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead. An announcement on Coach Kiffin's future is expected the Saturday following the game," Carter wrote.

The announcement comes hours after Florida Gators football insiders reported that Kiffin's representatives met with representatives of the University of Florida on Thursday.
Kiffin has been actively named a candidate for the vacant head coaching positions at both Florida and LSU. At this point it's not clear if Kiffin is truly leaning in one particular direction.
Staying or going?
But an announcement like this and the timing of it seems to indicate that Kiffin is leaning towards leaving.
Fans certainly seem convinced that the way this whole situation has played out indicates that he's gone:
"If Lane Kiffin was staying, wouldn’t it have been easier to say “he’s staying?” People can read between the lines," one user wrote on X.
"Wouldn't signing an extension be a great way to help the players focus on the egg bowl for the next week? Or maybe I'm crazy," wrote another.
"Lane doesn’t need another week to decide. He’s gone. This is to save face. If he was staying they’d have an announcement," a third pointed out.
They all make good points.
It now seems like less a question of if Kiffin will leave and more a question of where he's going.
