This late into the spring, it's clear the Oklahoma football's expectations are that of a College Football Playoff team. Anything else come late December might be a disappointment.
One of those expectations comes from On3's Brett McMurphy. The long-time college football scribe updated all of his postseason projections on Wednesday. And not just for the playoff, but for bowl games, too. Including all the bowls, 82 FBS teams will be needed to fill out the available slots. There are only 138 teams total in FBS, including the 2026 season's two newcomers, Sacramento State and North Dakota State.
As for where the Sooners land in McMurphy's prognostications, they're about the same as before. McMurphy placed Oklahoma as the No. 10-seed in the Playoff. Such seeding would be two spots below where OU slotted last year when the Sooners held the No. 8-seed and fell in their opening game against No. 9 Alabama.
The biggest change in McMurphy's updated predictions came at the very top. Penn State joined the fold in the Playoff, giving the Big Ten four teams in the projections. More significantly, McMurphy tabbed Miami (FL) as his predicted national champion. The Hurricanes made the title game last year as the No. 10-seed, falling to No. 1 Indiana. The Hoosiers, for the record, are McMurphy's No. 7-seed.
The SEC matched the Big Ten with four teams in the Playoff projections. Georgia earned a first-round bye from McMurphy with the No. 4-seed. Texas picked up the No. 6-seed and Texas A&M the No. 8- to join the Sooners.
