Marcel Reed’s return for the 2026 season has set a high bar for Texas A&M. The quarterback is entering the season as a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender.
Analyst Connor O’Gara weighed in on the Aggies’ outlook for 2026, saying that much of their ceiling depends on Reed’s performance.
"If you tell me Marcel Reed is playing at an All-SEC level, I think that A&M has a really good chance of being a CFP team in 2026,” O’Gara said on TexAgs Live.

Reed still has areas to refine, as he tied for the SEC lead with 22 turnover-worthy plays in the 2025 season. So his decision-making is the final step in his progression toward elite status. The quarterback has spent the offseason fine-tuning his mechanics, particularly focusing on his base and hip rotation to generate better throwing velocity and improved accuracy.
Meanwhile, there is more challenge for Reed as Texas A&M also enters the season in a period of transition. After sending a program-record 10 players to the NFL Draft, the roster underwent significant turnover due to departures and transfer portal movement. The coaching staff responded by bringing in new talent, but much will depend on how quickly the retooled unit can build chemistry around Reed.
Leadership is another area where Reed has taken a leap. He was named a team captain for the first time this spring, and he is already making an impression on teammates. Transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton praised Reed’s character, describing him as someone with a “great heart” who is willing to do anything for others.
Reed will now try to capitalize all his potential to potentially lead Texas A&M to a College Football Playoff race in the 2026 season. He is coming off a season where he accounted for over 3,600 yards of total offense and 31 total touchdowns.
