One of Indiana's top high school football senior prospects reopens recruitment

One of the top high school senior football players in Central Indiana is back on the market.

Carmel linebacker Dane Bathurst, a three-star prospect by recruiting sites 247sports and On3, posted on his social media accounts Thursday that he was opening his recruitment from Duke, where he had been committed since February.

“The path can be winding and difficult,” Bathurst wrote. But with God, uncertainty eventually turns into direction. Confusion becomes peace. With that said, I have decided to reopen my college football recruitment.”

Bathurst, who transferred to Carmel from Tampa Plant (Fla.) for his senior year, was an impact player for the Greyhounds, piling up more than 60 tackles, along with 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks in nine games. Carmel, ranked second in the state in Class 6A, finished 9-2 with a 23-20 overtime loss to No. 6 Westfield in last week’s sectional championship.

Bathurst plans to enroll in January at his college choice. He picked up new offers last month from Purdue and Vanderbilt, in addition to previous offers from Boston College, Kansas, Louisville, Northwestern, Rutgers, South Florida, Syracuse and Wake Forest, among others.

Bathurst is the cousin of Carmel senior quarterback Anthony Coellner, a Troy commit, and one of the top sophomore safety prospects in the country, Drake Coellner, who is visiting Ohio State this weekend. Drake Coellner was also offered by Vanderbilt in October and also has offers from Duke, Liberty, Purdue, Texas A&M, Troy and Wake Forest.
