With our annual countdown underway, we decided to go back to the old formula of using current players on the Penn State roster that coincide with the days remaining until the Lions open with Marshall.

This is especially important with a new-look roster in play for 2026, which includes No. 98 Dallas Vakalahi.

The junior defensive tackle is a space eater who has transferred in after two seasons playing at Utah, including making two starts last season.

Vakalahi accumulated 27 tackles and two sacks during his time in Salt Lake City. He’s a Utah native who will stand out because of his size – 6’2, 337 pounds. Vakalahi will try to be an anchor in the middle of the defensive line for first-year defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn.

The Lions will have another No. 98 on the roster as redshirt freshman Matthew Parker will also wear the number. Parker was a standout at Central York where he earned first-team all-state honors as a senior.

Penn State will be back on the field in 98 days against Marshall.
