Oregon football starts the month by delivering its own pre-Fourth of July fireworks. The Ducks already closed out June with landing four-star Anthony Cartwright at tight end. But Wednesday witnessed combined victories over Alabama, LSU, Georgia etc. by landing these College Football Recruiting stars: Hayden Stepp and Tae Walden.
The versatile athletes, who rank as four stars, both chose the Ducks on the same day. Plus made their decisions in less than 30 minutes from one another. The standout from Collierville, Tennessee selected Oregon first to launch the new recruiting momentum for the Big Ten power.

Stepp didn’t take long in following Walden to Eugene.

Both prospects once again turn down some big suitors. All to play for coach Dan Lanning and the College Football Playoff team of 2025.
The 6-foot-2 Walden had Georgia and LSU aiming to secure him to its recruiting classes. Walden, however, became sold on Lanning’s vision while also revealing he enjoyed the energy during his visit to the campus.
Walden brings value for both wide receiver and cornerback here. So Oregon lures in one of the nation’s best remaining versatile talents left in the 2027 cycle. He can return kicks too, meaning he’ll impact the field in three different phases.
Stepp looks like a future shutdown cornerback. One who can line up next to current star Brandon Finney Jr. by the fall 2027 season. He adds past Bishop Gorman representation too in Eugene, with former prep teammate Jett Washington already featured in the Oregon secondary.
Oregon now has pulled in four new commits since June 24, with three-star interior offensive lineman from Mater Dei High in Santa Ana Lex Mailangi sparking the movement with his commitment.
Now Oregon sits at 23 verbal commits.
